What is Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual direction encourages you to explore a closer relationship with God. In spiritual direction, you meet and prayerfully reflect on the experiences of your daily life to recognize God's presence and grace. The role of the Spiritual Director is to guide more than direct, and to help you discern the movements of the Holy Spirit. The one-on-one accompaniment sessions are confidential and usually for an hour. Spiritual Directors have undergone years of training and are approved by the Diocese of Austin.

Spiritual direction is not pastoral counselling nor is it a type of therapy. Rather it is about
enhancing your spiritual journey; of being transformed by the Spirit of God into the image of Christ for the sake of others. Many great spiritual masters of the church have attested to the importance of spiritual direction by a trained director for progress in the spiritual life.

Is Spiritual Direction Right For Me?

You may seek spiritual direction for a variety of reasons, including:

• Identifying and trusting your own experiences with God
• Recognizing God’s presence and activity in your daily life
• Integrating spirituality into you daily life
• Discussing or expanding your prayer life
• Discerning and making difficult decisions
• Sharing your hopes, struggles, and losses
• Developing a greater sensitivity for justice and concern for the poor
• Living with spiritual integrity

The Role of a Spiritual Director

The privilege and responsibility of a trained Spiritual Director is to journey with you as you
deepen your relationship with God in the context of a confidential one-on-one sessions, usually lasting 50 minutes in length. These sessions are typically once a month but scheduling is flexible to your needs. They may continue for as long as mutually agreed.
